PA Turnpike to Close Overnight April 14 between Quakertown and Lehigh Valley Interchanges
April 12, 2024 – The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists that the Northeast Extension (Interstate 476) will be closed in both directions on Sunday, April 14 from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. between the Lehigh Valley Interchange, Exit 56, Lehigh County, and the Quakertown Interchange, Exit 44, Bucks County.
The closure is necessary for the protection of motorists and workers so crews can safely remove overhead bridge beams. The bridge, which carries Indian Creek Road over the Turnpike, crosses I-476 at milepost A52.3 in Lehigh County.
Northbound Detour
Exit at the Quakertown Interchange, Exit 44. Take State Route 663 north to State Route 309 north to Interstate 78 west, then to State Route 309 north. Follow to U.S. Route 22 west or Tilghman Street west. Re-enter the PA Turnpike at the Lehigh Valley Interchange, Exit 56.
Southbound Detour
Exit at the Lehigh Valley Interchange, Exit 56. Take U.S. Route 22 east to State Route 309 south to Interstate 78 east. Then follow to State Route 309 south to State Route 663 south. Re-enter the PA Turnpike at the Quakertown Interchange, Exit 44.
During the road closure, the northbound and southbound entry and exit ramps will be closed to all traffic at the Allentown Service Plaza. Visitors that do not exit the service plaza prior to 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 13 will have to remain in the service plaza until the work is completed and the ramps are reopened to traffic. The Allentown Service Plaza is located on I-476 northbound and southbound at milepost 55.9 in Lehigh County.
Pennsylvania State Police and Turnpike personnel will be positioned at the impacted areas to assist drivers. Digital message signs will also provide information on this closure. Motorists are encouraged to plan travel accordingly. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions.
